ONE Bank Limited, a private sector commercial bank in the country, on Thursday launched its mobile banking service with the brand name ‘OK’ to provide branchless banking services among people, particularly in unprivileged rural and remote areas.
Bangladesh Bank deputy governor Md Abul Kashem and ONE Bank board of directors’ chairman Sayeed Hossain Chowdhury jointly inaugurated the service—‘OK banking on mobile’—and unveiled its logo at a function held at the Radisson Blu Water Garden Hotel in the capital.
The bank chose ‘Nagad Takar Din Shesh-Ebar OK Bangladesh’ as slogan of the service.
Abul Kashem emphasised on the importance of mobile banking as a tool in financial inclusion and to bring around 85 per cent unbanked population under banking services.
Mobile banking is growing in the country by 12 per cent every month and on an average, around 5 lakh clients transact Tk 1.5 billion through mobile banking every day, he said, hoping that ONE Bank will play an important role in financial inclusion through its mobile banking.
Sayeed Hossain Chowdhury said that OBL has touched another milestone in its journey towards excellence by introducing mobile banking service.
He said OBL introduced mobile banking to provide banking services to people in the remote and rural communities.
‘OK mobile banking is not about only sending and receiving money, OK means the entire range of banking facility is in your pocket,
including account opening, savings, bill payment, salary and wage payment, shopping, remittance and performing all kinds of transactions,’ he said.
OBL mobile banking will make everyday life of people easy, he said.
Bank officials said that people would be able to get banking services at anytime and in anywhere in the country using their mobile devices through Grameenphone and Citycell networks, from Union Information and Services Centre and authorised agents across the country.
ONE Bank director ASM Shahidullah Khan, Citycell chief executive officer Mehboob Chowdhury and Grameenphone chief finance officer Mainur Rahman Bhuiyan were also present.
