The Dhaka-Chittagong highway was gridlocked for about one hour due to a head-on collision yesterday and the road’s dilapidated condition.
Sources said traffic situation on the highway has worsened nowadays since the renovation of potholes started four days ago.
Moreover, a head-on collision between a Dhaka-bound covered van and a loaded truck around 3:00pm near Sitakunda upazila led to the suffering of passengers to mount further.
However, none was injured in the accident, said Sergeant Amir Faruk of Baro Aulia Highway Police.
Mohammad Alam, a bus-passenger, said it took him over four hours to reach Chittagong city from Sitakunda, usually a one-hour distance.
He said the highway is mostly damaged at different places in Mirsarai and Sitakunda upazila, as the potholes have remained uncared for over six months.
The renovation work also causes slower vehicular movement and thus transport bottleneck, he added.
Around 90-kilometre distance on the highway from Chittagong City Gate to Feni face has been facing huge congestion for last few days due the dilapidation and the repair work.
