Operation Smile’s second mission for treating a hundred poor children with cleft lip began at Care Hospital in the capital on Sunday.
The first mission took place at BSSMU Hospital where approximately a hundred surgeries were done.
Operation Smile is a worldwide children’s medical charity recognised by UNICEF that provides free surgery for children with correctable facial deformities like cleft lip, palate, facial tumors and burns.
The medical team comprises international medical volunteers including plastic surgeons, pediatricians, anesthetist and nurses from Singapore, the USA, Philippines, Peru, Indonesia and Bangladesh.
On Sunday, a screening was held to select patients for consecutive surgeries during the next five days by the foreign experts. Bangladeshi doctors have pledged to provide the follow-up.
