AL postpones press conference
BNP chairperson on Tuesday asked the opposition lawmakers to remain standby so that if instructed they could attend the parliament session, BNP lawmakers said hinting that they were likely to join the session on Wednesday. Though the decision to join the parliament was not finalised we have been asked to remain standby at the lobby of the parliament, a senior BNP lawmaker said adding that unless there is no negative gesture from the government in the house, side they are likely to join the session.
“In that case a senior lawmaker from the opposition will place opposition leader’s proposal on the poll-time caretaker government” he added.
Earlier, the meeting of the BNP led-18 party alliance’s parliamentary party was adjourned till Wednesday.
Opposition chief whip Joynal Abdin Farroque told the media that the meeting would be held on Wednesday.
Another opposition lawmaker preferring anonymity told The Independent that BNP chairperson adjourned the meeting after 20 minutes of discussion saying that they would take decision regarding joining parliament after assessing the government move on Wednesday.
“The business advisory committee of the parliament will sit on Wednesday. Let us see what decision they would take then we will set our next course of action. I will let you know what to do next,” the BNP lawmaker said quoting Khaleda.
The adjournment of the parliamentary party meeting of the 18 party alliance coincided with the postponement of the press conference by Awami League.
Though in a press release Awami League said that party general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam would hold a press conference on Wednesday at party president Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmondi office, the press conference was cancelled in the evening.
The media release said the Awami League general secretary will deliver his speech on the country’s latest political situation.
“The news conference has been called off for the time being. The next schedule of the press conference will be informed later,” Mrinal Kanti Das, deputy office secretary of Awami League said.
