She co-wrote and sung “Flashdance… What a Feeling” from 1983’s romantic dance film Flashdance.Irene went on to win her only Oscar for Best Original Song category. The song won her sole Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
Cara hasn’t acted in 20 years. 2004’s “Downtown: A Street Tale” was her last film. 2011’s “Irene Cara Presents Hot Caramel” was her last studio album.
The singer was married to Conrad Palmisano, a stuntman and director, from 1986 until their divorce in 1991.
