Most packaged foods, which have flooded the market, pose serious health hazards for child health,
health experts have said.
These packaged foods are being prepared by mixing toxic chemicals and harmful dyes with them to attract consumers, which may cause serious diseases among children, they added.
Talking to the news agency, Dr Zahiduzzaman of Dhaka Salimullah Medical College said different harmful chemicals and poisonous dyes are being used for preparing baby foods. In most cases, these packaged foods do not contain sufficient nutritious food values, he said.
These harmful chemicals and poisonous dyes are harmful for human health, particularly for children, he said. ‘In most cases, adequate food values are absent in the packaged foods,’ he added.
Various juices are being sold in the market with the claim that those were prepared with fresh fruits. But most of the juices are not prepared with fruits.
According to a laboratory test of International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh, 98.30 per cent of the packaged juice materials are not from fruits. Rather these packaged juices contain harmful dyeing, which may badly affect kidney and other organs of human body.
A section of companies are launching intensive publicity of packaged foods through advertisement with false slogans.
In most cases, children are falling sick having the food items and they are suffering from various health complications.
Alongside health threat, nutrition value of these packaged foods is very poor, which badly affects normal growth of children.
