The River Padma is flowing just above the danger mark, flooding the river-side areas of the Rajshahi city. People have taken shelter at the Rajshahi town protection embankment.
The Rajshahi district administration is distributing relief for the flood-affected people but the Rajshahi City Corporation authorities are yet to take any step in this regard.
The Rajshahi Water Development Board executive engineer, Harun-or-Rashid, said the water level was two centimeter above the danger level Tuesday afternoon.
The water level would rise three of four centimeters more within Tuesday, he added.
The water level rose beyond the danger mark for the first time in the last ten years, the WDB sources said.
The low-lying areas along with the Zia Nagar area inside the town protection embankment were flooded Sunday night.
