Different socio-cultural organisations throughout the country have chalked out elaborate programmes to welcome the Bangla new year 1417 today.
Chhayanaut
Leading cultural organisation Chhayanaut holds its most acclaimed cultural programme to celebrate the Pahela Baishakh at Ramna Batamul. The programme will start with the playing of esraj at 6:00am and will continue till 9:30am.
More than 150 singers and musicians will perform at the programme that will be telecast live on the internet and can be seen at http://www.chhayanaut.org/.
Fine Arts Faculty of Dhaka University
Students of fine arts faculty of Dhaka University have chalked out a two-day cultural programme that started at the faculty’s Bakultala on April 13 with the celebration of Chaitra Sangkranti, the last day of the Bengali calendar.
The organisers will bring a colourful rally rich with traditional handicrafts, masks and floats of horse, elephant, fish and peacock at 8:30am.
A colourful cultural programme will also be held at Bakultala in the evening on the day.
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy
A three-day cultural programme featuring music, dance, theatrical performance and a traditional fair began at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Tuesday. Everyday the programme will begin at 5:00pm.
Bangladesh National Museum
Folk singers from different parts of the country will perform at the premises of Bangladesh National Museum at 6:00am in Shahbagh.
Noted folksingers Abdul Latif Sai, Delwar Hossain Bayati, Idris Ali Bayat, Shah Kamir, Mamata Dasi and Ranjit Das, among others will sing in the programme being accompanied with Uttam Chakabarti on flute, Ustad Ashutosh Shil on dotara, Tulsi Saha on tabla, Mobarak on dhol, Summon Shil on mandira and Sohag on percussion.
The Museum will be kept open to all from 10:30am to 5:30pm with free entry.
Wrisiz Shilpi Goshti
Wrisiz Shilpi Goshti will arrange a cultural programme featuring music, dance and recitation at 7:00am on Bhashani Sarak in front of Shishu Park.
Veteran jatra-performer Jotsna Biswas will inaugurate the event that will
also feature a reception to the artistes of Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra.
Central Public Library
A Baishakhi fair will be held at the premise of Central Public Library at 7:00am.
Day-long special screening of Tanvir Mokammel’s films will also be held at the library’s Shawkat Osman Auditorium.
Films Chitra Nadir Pare will be screened at 10:30am while Lal Salu at 12:30pm, Lalon at 3:00pm, Rabeya at 5:30pm and Chitra Nadir Pare at 7:30pm.
Tickets, priced at Tk 50, will be available at the gate of the auditorium.
A film-show titled ‘Bhinna Chokhe’ organised by Sine Circle will be held at the premises.
Department of Music of Dhaka University
Dhaka University’s music department will arrange a cultural programme titled ‘Baishakh Hey, Mounitapash’ at 7:00am at the Fine Art faculty’s Bakultala.
Vice chancellor professor AASM Arefin Siddique will be the chief guest while pro-vice chancellor professor Harun-or-Rashid, treasurer Mizanur Rahman and Fine Art Faculty dean professor Sadrul Amin will be present as special guests on the occasion.
Concert
Popular bands LRB, Feedback, Artcell and Lalon, and singer Fuad will perform at a concert at 2:00pm at Banani Society Ground at Kemal Ataturk Avenue in the city.
Provatferi
Dhaka University’s central cultural organisation Provatferi will arrange a day-long Pahela Baishakh celebration programme at Battala of the arts faculty at 9:00am.
Besides the artistes of organisation, noted singers Momtaz, Fahmida Nabi, Bappa Majumder, Arnob, Krishnokali, Anusheh
and Bangla Band and Troop will perform at the function.
Liberation War Museum
Liberation War Museum’s new year celebration include performance by students of Fatullah Pilot High School and recitation by artistes of Jiyankathi.
Artistes of Dhrupadi Kala Kendra will perform dance while folksingers Sonia Begum and Delwar Hossain Bayati will sing Baul songs.
Dhaka Sangskritik Sangsad
Dhaka Sangskritic Sangsad will celebrate Pahela Baishakh with flying fanush at 7:00pm at Ray Shaheb Bazar at Dholaikhal.
Grameenphone-Channel i: Baishakhi Mela 1417
Mobile phone operator Grameenphone and private television Channel i will jointly hold a fair on the channels’ office premises. The fair will begin at 10:00am and will continue till 1:25pm. Stalls will be set up showcasing country’s traditional food, attires and musical instruments.
The cultural programmes will also have music, dance performance, recitation and a painting competition.
Mask Exhibition
A mask exhibition titled ‘Surf Excel Dekhao Pratibha Mukhase Mukhase’ will be held at Shahbah at 8:00am. Masks made by about 6000 children of different city schools will be displayed in the show.
