A Chicago-based Pakistani cricket fan Basheer Bozai denied that he was forced to wear Bangladeshi flag during Wednesday’s Bangladesh-Pakistan Asia Cup match in Mirpur.
Some photos of Bozai wearing Bangladeshi flag apparently being forced by the supporters of local member of parliament Elias Mollah went viral in social media on Friday.Bozai looked apparently in tears when the incident happened at the grand stand area of the stadium.
‘I wore Bangladeshi flag on my own, because I love both countries,’ Bozai told New Age on Friday. ‘If Pakistan win I am happy, if Bangladesh win I am also happy.
‘Nobody forced me to wear Bangladeshi flag. Only two or three people gave me hard time as they said I cannot carry Pakistani flag,’ Bozai said.
Pakistan team spokesman Agha Akbar also refused to make it an issue.
‘I spoke to him, he said he was not forced to do it,’ said Aga. ‘He rearranged it with Pakistani flag later in the gallery. So there is no issue.’
