The actor Khairul Islam Pakhi is simultaneously acting in both small screen and theatre through playing the lead role in the drama serial Joibati Konnyar Mon and through performing in almost all running productions of Dhaka Theatre.
Pakhi-acted serial is to be aired on the private TV channel SATV.
In addition to this, the actor is going to make his debut on silver screen through Animesh Aich’s action thriller Zero Degree.
‘I feel obliged and curious to work in all the media that bring me to people’s sight, though sometimes it becomes very hard to cope with all at once,’ Pakhi told New Age.
‘I am more comfortable on stage. I think stage is my first platform. But I am no less curious and eager to act in films. If good films come on my way, I will be glad to act in them,’ Pakhi told New Age.
As a member of Dhaka Theatre, Pakhi has acted in many noted productions of the troupe. He has acted in Dhaka Theatre’s famous productions like Haat Hodai, Muntasir Fantasy, Keramat Mangol, Bhut, Joibati Konyar Mon, Merchant of Venice, Nasta Nir, Dhurta We.
Moreover, Pakhi enacted the role of prince Ferdinand in Dahaka Theatre’s acclaimed production The Tempest which was staged at the Globe Theatre on May 07 and 08 last year.
‘Performing in Globe Theatre is a dream for theatre activists all over the world. The memory of that performance will always be a cherished one for me,’ said Pakhi.
The talented actor is going to enact the famous character Mersault of Albert Camus’ The Outsider (1942) which Dhaka Theatre is bringing on stage.
‘The Outsider is a hugely popular novel only for its enigmatic protagonist Meursault. It is therefore not an easy task to render the character on stage. I take this as a challenge. In fact, Meursault is one of the challenging characters I have enacted so far,’ Pakhi told New Age.
The novel has been dramatised and translated by Rubaiyat Ahmed for Dhaka Theatre, and thespian Nasiruddin Yusuff will direct the piece. The play will see its first staging in December, hopes Pakhi.
