Pakistan must win against Bangladesh in the second and final Test to retain its current position in ICC Test team rankings, the International Cricket Council said on Monday. Despite being unable to beat Bangladesh in the first Test in Khulna Pakistan moved up in the ladder to third position with 103 points thanks to England’s five-wicket loss to West Indies in Barbados on Sunday.A win in the Mirpur Test will keep Pakistan just above the England (102) with decimal points while a Bangladesh win would see Pakistan drop behind England (102) and New Zealand (99) in fifth position on 96 points.
If the Test is drawn, then Pakistan will join New Zealand on 99 points but will be ranked above them by a fraction of a point in the fourth spot.
The drawn Test in Khulna saw some excellent individual performances of Bangladesh players and some of them reached their career high in both ICC player rankings for Test batsmen and bowlers.
Bangladeshi opener Tamim Iqbal, who scored a Test best 206 in the match has gained eight places to 26th place and his partner Imrul Kayes reached to 67th with an astonishing leap of 24 spots thanks to his 51 and 151.
Two other southpaws of the team have also reached their personal best positions as Mominul Haque moved in the 23rd position with his 80 and 21-run innings and Taijul Islam’s 6-for propelled him into the 31st position in the bowlers’ ranking.
