Ministers, Lawmakers and Leaders of the Mohajote in greater Chittagong region at a public meeting here on Saturday said they would work together for bringing back the past glory of the port city as the country’s economic and industrial hub.
In this respect, they sought wholehearted cooperation of the people to free Bangladesh from the curses of corruption and terrorism in line with the election pledges of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Chittagong city unit of Awami League organized the meeting at Laldighi Maidan marking Bangabandhu’s Homecoming Day. City Al president and Mayor Alhaj A B M Mohiuddin Chowdhury was in the chair.
Shipping Minister Dr. Afsarul Amin, Industries Minister Dilip Barua, State Minister for CHT Affairs Dipankar Talukder and lawmakers including Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, Akhteruzzaman Chowdhury Babu, Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud, A B M Abul Kashem Master, Shamsul Haq Chowdhury, M A Latif and Abdur Rahman Badi addressed the meeting. Former Pro-Vice Chancellor of Chittagong University Dr. Abu Yousuf Alam, former president of Chittagong District Bar Association Advocate Monatosh Barua, Advocate Iftekhar Saimul Chowdhury and city AL general secretary Enamul Haq Danu also addressed the meeting.
Shipping Minister Dr. Afsarul Amin said the nation was happy today as they were on this day in 1972 when Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman returned home from the jail of Pakistan. “The people are really happy this time as they have given a landslide victory to Awami League to form the government under the leadership of the daughter of Father of the Nation,” he said.
He urged the people to remain alert against the conspirators and their evil designs and assured that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina would be able to build Bangladesh as a prosperous country with the active cooperation of all in the society. “Let us work together so that there remains no room for the corrupts, terrorists, extortionists and their mentors in this holy land of Baro Aulia” Dr. Afsarul Amin said.
Industry Minister Dilip Barua said Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was the undisputed leader of the nation as the country’s Independence was achieved through his historic declaration at Racecourse Ground on March 7,1971.
“Bangabandhu will remain in the hearts of all as the symbol of our Independence, Democracy and Economic Emancipation,” he said. Barua said that implementation of Sheikh Hasina’s election manifesto has already started by taking decisions to allocate increased subsidy for fertilizer and reduce the price of diesel.
“The future industry policy will protect the interest of both owners and workers of mills and factories by promoting the private sector and also saving the profitable public sector enterprises,” he said. The Industries Minister said the main objective of the present government is to attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in a larger volume and promote the local industries to achieve the Vision-2021 as illustrated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Acting President of Jatiya Party (Ershad) Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud MP called the propaganda of a certain quarter ‘funny’ as he said the nation would never believe that Awami League, which brought freedom for the nation, would put the hard- earned Sovereignty and Independence at a stake.
