Penelope Cruz has told how she set her hair on fire blowing out candles on her birthday cake.
The actress said she gets flustered celebrating because she doesn’t know how to act around people.
She said, “I always get nervous celebrating the birthday.
“[This year] I had dinner with friends and family.
“I get nervous when people sing ‘Happy Birthday’. I get nervous when I have to open the presents in front of them.
“I get more nervous even than at the Oscars.”
And she said she never knows how to react when people give her gifts in case she can’t hide her disappointment.
She told NBC’s The Tonight Show, “If I like it or don’t, I don’t know how to express myself.
“The other day I got so nervous that when I had to blow the candles, my hair caught on fire.
“But it really caught on fire.”
Host Jay Leno then said, “That’s why they only have birthdays once a year.”
Cruz, who turned 37 on April 28, said her star sign is Taurus.
“I’ve been told all of my life I’m very stubborn,” she said.
She also revealed neither she nor husband Javier Bardem has a driving license, which she said makes spending time in car-friendly Los Angeles difficult.
