BNP lawmaker AM Mahbub Uddin Khokan on Wednesday told Parliament that people would teach the ruling party a “final lesson” through the ballot in the next national election.
“You’re afraid of the caretaker government provision. That’s why you continue to evade the issue. Our movement will continue till the demand for restoration of this provision is met. People will teach the government a final lesson in the next poll,” he said. The BNP lawmaker was speaking at a discussion on the proposed budget in the House.
He criticised the government for its “corruption, misrule, tender manipulations and killings”. Khokan cited the people’s verdict against the ruling party in the recently held four city corporation polls and the Chittagong City Corporation poll held a couple of years ago.
He alleged that the government has made the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) a toothless tiger and referred to the recent remarks of the outgoing ACC chief in this regard. “The ACC has lost its teeth at the hands of the Prime Minister. After the next election, a new government will provide the ACC with new teeth and then it’ll start biting corrupt persons,” he added.
He said a large amount of money has been misappropriated in the name of setting up quick rental power plants. “Where is the promised power generation? It’s only on paper, not in reality.
