A physician in Barisal was sent to jail on Tuesday for allegedly sexually abusing a female patient.
Shaheduzzaman, officer in charge of Barisal Kotwali police station, said Shah Alam Chokdar lodged a case on Monday night under section 10 of the act for prevention of torture against women and children against Jahangir Alam Selim, former registrar of the surgery ward at Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital and owner of Health Care Clinic in the city.
The complainant alleged that Jahangir sexually abused Chokdar’s newly married 18 year old wife who was under treatment at the clinic on Monday afternoon.
The complainant, a UAE expatriate and resident of Charjhanpur in Rakudia under Babuganj upazila, said his wife was admitted to the clinic on September 12 for an appendicitis operation, which was carried out by Jahangir.
On Monday afternoon, Jahangir called the victim to his chambers with was no staff or attendants and sexually abused her, Chokdar alleged.
Hearing a cry from the room, people rushed to the scene and cordoned-off the clinic.
