An associate professor of nuclear medicine at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University was stabbed by a group of people at his house at Shyamali in the capital on Thursday morning.
The victim, Mahbubul Haque, was admitted Dhaka Medical College Hospital after surgery, hospital sources said. He was in the intensive care unit.
Physicians said the patient was kept under observation for 24 hours and they could not say anything about his condition so early.
The victim’s daughter Nawrin Mahbub said the group of about 15 had stabbed her father with sharp weapons about 4:30am when the group tried to enter the house.
Mahbubul was sent to Popular Hospital in a critical condition and was then moved to Dhaka Medical College Hospital about 5:15am, the hospital sources said.
The family said robbers had looted the house in 2009.
No case was filed till 10:00pm.
