The Press Institute of Bangladesh organised a dialogue at Barisal Zila Parishad auditorium on Friday as a part of the ‘mass communication programme in developing children and women’. The participants in the programme emphasised focusing on children and women related issues in the media with more space and importance. PIB director general Md Shah Alamgir presided over the dialogue which was participated in, among others, by Barisal divisional commissioner Nurul Amin, Barisal Press Club president Manabendra Batobayal, Barisal divisional UNICEF chief AH Toufiq Ahmed, PIB trainer Mohammad Abdul Mannan, and editors representatives of Barisal regional all print and on-line media.
The participants also discussed implementation strategy and status of different issues including children with disabilities, child marriage, children act 2013, child nutrition etc.
They acknowledged that though children and women were more than two-thirds of the country’s population, the issues related to their rights were not properly focused in media.
They agreed that the journalists could play a significant role for changing the situation in order to build a better future.
After the dialogue, the participants also visited the Barisal Reporters Unity and the Newspaper Corner there and presented the PIB publications to the Barisal Reporters Unity Library.
