The ministry of establishment has launched a Performance Improvement Programme in collaboration with Coalition against Pollution to reduce sound pollution and traffic congestion in the Dhaka city.
The Performance Improvement Programme of Managing at the Top 2 under the BPTC of ministry of Establishment was inaugurated at the Bangladesh Sheikh Mujib Medical University auditorium in Dhaka Thursday morning.
Home secretary Abdus Sobhan Sikdar inaugurated the programme as the chief guest and BSMMU vice-chancellor Pran Gopal Dutta presided over the ceremony while North South University faculty professor Nurul Amin, delegates from Dhaka Club, Bangladesh Paribesh Andolan, Save the Environment Movement, WBB Trust were also present at the inauguration.
Tapan Kumar Nath discussed the detailed plan of the PIP.
He said the area from the Sonargaon Hotel to Dhaka University Teachers-Students Centre would be announced honking free zone and the drivers who would be responsible for violating the rule would be punished.
He also announced to set up a parking zone in this area under the programme.
Abdus Sobhan Sikder said the government had already banned the import and sale of hydraulic horns in the country.
He also said only the mismanagement in traffic system was not responsible for traffic congestion on city streets rather the authorities who were issuing licences to unskilled drivers were also responsible for this hazard.
He demanded punishment of the government officials who were issuing such licences in exchange of bribe money.
