Even as investigators claim that Oishee, the only daughter of special branch police inspector Mahfuzur Rahman and his wife Swapna Rahman, was involved in the murder of her parents, her uncle suspects that others were also involved in the murder. Moshiur Rahman Rubel, younger brother of the slain police officer and the plaintiff of the murder case, believes that the police version is shrouded in mystery.Earlier, the DB police claimed that Oishee had confessed to the murder of her parents on early Thursday.
Oishee, allegedly a drug addict, got help from three of her friends and a maid, who were present during the incident. They were also involved in the murder plan, the police claimed.
Rubel told The Independent, “The entire episode is shrouded in mystery. I don’t believe that a 16-year-old girl could kill her parents in such a brutal manner.”
“I think the police should find out the truth. They should find out who had used her in the murder of my brother and sister-in-law,” he said.
The police recovered the couple’s bodies from their Chamelibagh flat in the city on Friday. Their only daughter and domestic help Khadiza Khatun Sumi, 15, were missing since the murder incident. Oishee walked to a police station on Saturday and surrendered.
After the post-mortem, doctors at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital said that the bodies bore the signs of unprofessional killers.
A Dhaka court placed Oishee, Sumi and Oishee’s friend Mizanur Rahman Rony on a five-day remand on Sunday.
Oishee’s remand, meanwhile, drew flak from different quarters, including National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) chairman Prof. Mizanur Rahman, who said that the matter should be investigated properly. Her school record shows that Oishee is below 18, which means she should be tried in a juvenile court.
Prof. Mizanur Rahman told The Independent TV on Monday that it was a violation of human rights. “The police produced Oishee before the court. But she was a minor under the law of the land. Showing any minor arrested, without checking their age, and informing the district probation officer about the arrest, is violation of children’s rights,” he said.
Rahman also termed as “inhuman” the manner in which 17-year-old Oishee Rahman was remanded over the murder of her parents. “It seems that the court did not consider the situation (while granting police remand) that led the girl to commit the murders. The court would never have sent a child in police custody, had it considered the motive behind the murders,” he added.
Replying to a question, Rubel said: “Oishee was born in Khulna. As far as I remember, it was in 1995.”
According to a teacher of Oxford International School, her parents stated her birth date as August 17, 1996, when she was admitted to the school.
Rubel denied the police claim that Oishee had become a spoilt child. “I don’t believe that she was so spoilt child that she could kill her parents,” he added.
According to the police, Oishee went out from home with her seven-year-old brother Ohi Rahman and domestic help on Thursday morning. The next day she sent her brother back by a CNG-run auto rickshaw after her two maternal uncles called her and asked her whereabouts before police recovered the bodies breaking open the flat’s door.
When asked, Monirul Islam, joint commissioner of the Detective Branch (DB) of Police, said they had handed over Ohi to a relative for safe custody. However, two relatives from Ohi’s father and mother’s side said that they did not have any idea about his whereabouts.
When asked, Rubel, Oishee’s paternal uncle, said they would take responsibilities of Ohi in future. They would also take his sister Oishee’s responsibilities. “Our blood runs in her vein. We can’t avoid her,” he said.
Upon primary interrogations, the police claimed that Mahfuzur and Swapna were drugged before killing. Oishee did that by mixing sedatives with coffee. After the murder, the killers dragged the bodies to the washroom of Oishee’s room.
