Plaintiff makes deposition
The plaintiff of Bishwajit murder on Sunday narrated how Bangladesh Chhatra League activists carried out attack on him on December 9, 2012 on his way to his tailor-shop.
About 25 activists of Chattra League attacked the victim by sharp weapons and stick and iron rot following a blast, the plaintiff, Jalal Uddin, a subinspector of Sutrapur Police Station, told the court.
Bishwajit tried to escape and took shelter to the 1st floor of an intensive dental care where the killers went, hacked him by machetes and left the place.
Then a rickshaw puller, Ripon, brought the victim to the Midford Hospital, where he died.
Speedy Trial Tribunal -2 Judge Dewan Md Shafiullah recorded the deposition of Jalal Uddin in the proceeding that started nearly seven months after the incident.
On completion his deposition, the defence counsels cross examined the witness.
The court adjourned till July 21.
Metropolitan session judge Jahrul Haque on June 2 indicted the 21 Chhatra League activists for killing Bishwajit Das and transferred the case to speedy trial tribunal court-4 for depositions of the prosecution witnesses.
Biswajit, 23, a tailor by profession, was hacked to death by a group of activists of Chhatra League, the ruling Awami League-backed student organisation, near Bahadur Shah Park in Dhaka during the countrywide road blockade enforced by the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party-led alliance on December 9, 2012.
A case was lodged with Sutrapur police station for the killing on the same day.
On April 4, the metropolitan magistrate took cognisance of charges and issued warrants for the arrest of 13 accused, who were in hiding.
On April 29, the case document was transferred to Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court for trial.
Eight of the 21 accused — Mahfuzur Rahman Nahid, AHM Kibria, Quiyum Miah Tipu, GM Rasheduzzaman Shaon, Saiful Islam, Emdadul Haque Emdad, Golam Mustafa and Mohammad Rafiqul Islam alias Shakil — are in jail. They were produced in court.
The rest 13 accused — Monirul Haque Pavel, Rafiqul Islam, Md Alauddin, Obaidul Quader Tahsin, Imran Hossain alias Imran, Rajon Talukder, Khondoker Md Yunus Ali, Tarique Bin Zohor alias Tamal, Azizur Rahman, Noor-e-Alam Limon, Al Amin Sheikh, Mosharraf Hossain and Kamrul Hasan — are still in hiding.
