Even though her exhibition is titled Monochrome, artist Lubna Habib has used multiple colours on her canvasses, and she has used them rather copiously to highlight a wide range of themes.
The exhibition, which is going on at the Bronia Café in Gulshan 1, displays 47 acrylic and oil paintings by the artist.
Lubna has dealt with human life and nature in her paintings in bright colours. Wall Flower, one of the works at the exhibition, depicts a beautiful rural maiden, who holds fresh vegetables collected from local fields, in her arms. The boats in the background might suggest that she perhaps anticipates the return of someone to the village, as her wistful eyes can only strengthen this interpretation.
Wheel, on the other hand, is a painting that depicts a whirlpool of colours. Dominated by bright blue, the painting also includes circular strokes of white. The semi abstract work might suggest a merging of the divine elements that stir the imaginations of the artist.
Another interesting work demands a closer look of the viewers. A quick view of the work may only seem to be random strokes of colours at first. Buy if one looks attentively enough, she can see the structures of two women appear mysteriously in the canvas.
Inaugurated by renowned artist Mansur-Ul-Karim on August 1, the exhibition will remain open for all from 10:00am to 8:00pm till August 16. – See more at: http://newagebd.net/40282/play-of-colours-in-monochrome/#sthash.3548UBdm.dpuf
