The Bangladesh Cricket Board decided to become guarantor for Dhaka Premier League clubs as players’ transfer for its forthcoming edition will take place through controversial ‘players’ by choice’ draft system today. The ‘players’ by choice’ draft will be held at a city hotel from 11:00 am with BCB vice-president Mahbub Anam acting as the commissioner in the transfer system.BCB officials said they will introduce player’s contract form to cover all aspects of players payments while clubs representatives decided to pay the bank draft to BCB as part of payment guarantees.
‘BCB will take the responsibility of the players as we are taking the cheque [guarantor] from the clubs,’ BCB vice-president Mahbub Anam told reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Saturday.
‘We are introducing a players’ contract that will benefit both sides.
‘It is mandatory for players to sign in the players’ contract from now onwards,’ said Mahbub.
The CCDM had a long meeting with the DPL clubs’ representatives on Saturday before agreed to pay the bank draft to the BCB as part of payment guarantee.
Cricketers divided into eight categories will be presented in the players’ draft system.
Every club would be able to retain two cricketers from their previous squad except ‘Icon’ & ‘A+’ grade cricketers, who will tabled up in the last part of the draft.
If any listed cricketer is not picked by the clubs during the auction they will be counted as unsold and later by discussing with the club members, they might get a chance to play in this tournament.
‘Initially we will complete 13 rounds compromising from A to E categories’, said Mahbub.
‘At first the two new teams will have the chance to call two players.
‘A team will have to keep at least 10 players from the draft’, added the BCB vice-president.
The player’s payment is divided into three slots with the players receiving 30 per cent before the start of the league and 30 per cent before the end of the first phase.
The rest of the 40 per cent will be received within six weeks after the league ends.
Former national cricketer Shahadat Hossain, who is temporarily banned, can feature in DPL if he can provide clearance from the allegation.
Shahadat and his wife were charged of abusing their child home maid last year and went into hiding before they surrendered to the police.
Shahadat is currently going through a rehab process in the BCB academy.
The 12 Premier League clubs will pick their choice of players who will be divided into eight categories — Icon (fixed salary of Tk 30 lakh), A+ (fixed salary of Tk 25 lakh), A (Tk 20 lakh), B+ (Tk 15 lakh), B (Tk 12 lakh), C (Tk 8 lakh), D (Tk 5 lakh) and E (Tk 3.5 lakh).
Initially the clubs will have to take part in a lottery to determine their calling number in each of the 15 rounds for each of the eight categories.
In each round, the club that gets the first draw will have the first choice to pick players. Each round will have a separate lottery.
