Players who received money from more than one club before the open of the inter-club players transfer window will be punished by the Bangladesh Football Federation, a top official said after the professional league committee meeting on Wednesday.
The committee decided to put the punishment terms into the by-laws after facing pressure from the clubs.
Two top clubs, Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited and Abahani Limited, named five players – Zahid Hossain, Mamun Miah, Nahidul Islam Nahid, Shakil Ahmed and Mithun Chowdhury – who initially received money from them but later decided to join Sheikh Russell Krira Chakra.
The situation caused the BFF to postpone the transfer window, which was previously scheduled to start on August 16.
The professional league committee will finalise the by-laws during Saturday’s meeting and will send it to the executive committee for approval.
Committee chairman Salam Murshedi said after the meeting that the BFF had called an emergency executive meeting on Sunday to approve the by-laws.
‘We will include many terms regarding the accused players who received money from more than one club before the opening of the player transfer window,’ he said.
‘We gave time to resolve the crisis between clubs and players, but they did not take any necessary action. Officially we have no right to give any decision about the crisis until we receive the registration forms, which are provided by the BFF,’ he added.
‘After demands from clubs representatives, we decided to take strong steps against the accused players, but we are yet to finalise what the punishment will be. We will fix it in our adjoin meeting on Saturday,’ said committee member Zakir Hossain Chowdhury.
Meanwhile, the professional league committee has announced the opening date of players transfer window since two month ago but is yet to finalise the by-laws so that the clubs demanded that the players transfer will start after approve the by-laws and resolve the crisis between clubs and players.
The resolution of this crisis will finally clear the way for the professional league committee to announce a new date for the transfer window to open.
