Eight plays, most of which are periodic drama, were staged on the third day of the ongoing eight-day theatre festival at three venues of
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Saturday.
Organised by the academy, the festival titled Swapna O Drohoer Jatiyo Natyautsab features 64 theatre plays from the Shilpakala-based and college-based theatre troupes from 64 districts.Feni Governemnt College staged Shamsher Gazi Bir Ei Banglai at the National Theatre hall. Written and directed respectively by Rashed Mazhar and Manjur Tazim, the play depicts Shamsher Gazi’s rebellion against the British in Tripura region.
Written and directed by Shisdhir Rahman, Bibad Sargam staged by Government Harogana College, depicts the struggle of an unsung hero named Dinesh Gupta who sacrificed his life fighting against the British rule.
Nil Baithak, written and directed by Nishan Saber, and staged by Meherpur Municipality College reveals the atrocities of the British regime on the common farmers who used to cultivate nil.
Jiban Jekhane Jemon, written and directed by Mizanur Rahman, and staged by Chandpur Government College at the National Music and Dance Centre Hall, portrays the disappointment of the freedom fighters who fought for the independence of a prosperous country.
Most of the artistes of the productions were college students.
‘I am really glad to be able to perform in Dhaka,’ said Sajjadul Islam Dolon, a student of Feni Government College. Rahin, also a student of the same college, revealed that despite the limitations, the inspiration from Feni locals encouraged him to carry on with theatre.
‘I am new in theatre and it is indeed a great opportunity that I am performing at a national level festival,’ said Sultan Mahmud, a student of Jaipurhat Government College.
Other staged plays include Dopeye Doitya by Shilpakala Academy, Sylhet, Champabatir Golpo by Government Nurunahar Mohilla College from Jhenaidah, Jaladhar by Barguna Government College, Swapner Upakkhan by Joypurhal Government College.
