The prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, is scheduled for today to open the 3.1-kilometre Kuril Flyover in the city.
Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha officials said that the authority complotted all major works before Saturday morning. Bangladeshi construction company Project Builders Ltd, along with China Major Bridge Engineering Corporation, has built the flyover at a cost of Tk 306 crore, financed by Rajuk.
The 8.9-metre wide and 14.6-metre high flyover comprises four sections providing uninterrupted connection among Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Nikunja, Banani, Rampura and Purbachal areas.
According to Rajuk estimate of 2007, around 1,57,000 vehicles coming from the five areas cross the Kuril intersection every day.
The Rajuk chairman, Nurul Huda, said that traffic through Kuril level crossing remains suspended for seven to eight hours every day as trains pass through this level crossing.
