Issuing a strong note of warning against opposition BNP, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday said if this party does not stop its destructive agitation programmes it will have to face the music. “We know it very well how to retort and tackle such kinds of destructive activities,” she said while addressing a discussion at Krishibid Institution auditorium. Awami League organised the discussion marking the Martyred Intellectuals Day with its presidium member and deputy leader of the House Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury in the chair.
“So far, we’ve shown too much patience, we won’t tolerate anymore the way the BNP killing people day by day in the name of agitation programme,” said Hasina.
The Prime Minster asked the opposition leader to stop killing and making attacks on people, and her efforts to save the war criminals.
Talking about BNP’s decision to refrain from participating in the 10th parliamentary election, Hasina said that the opposition party has decided not to participate in the election as Jamaat cannot join it following the High Court ruling.
“If you don’t have any interest to participate in the election, then leave it. And we all know it very well that BNP won’t join the election without its beloved Jamaat,” she said.
The Prime Minister further said, “I’ve nothing to say if the BNP leader wants to live with Jamaat but right now she must stop oppressing people.
“If you don’t do so, we know it very well how to retort and tackle the situation,” she said.
Pointing finger to BNP chief Khaleda Zia, the Prime Minister said in 1971 Pakistan military junta Gen Niazi, Yahya and Tikka Khan failed to carry on as they had gone against the people of this country despite declaring a war.
She also said the evil spirits of Niazi, Yahya and Tikka Khan have now taken control of the BNP leader. “I will urge people to remain alert and build a resistance against her,” she added.
About the implementation of the verdict of the war criminals, the AL chief said: “We’ve implemented one verdict, and Inshallah we’ll implement the other verdicts, too.”
Referring to a recent remark by a BNP leader that there is a war going on in the country, Hasina said that BNP declared a war against people, and they (people) know it very well how to resist and win such a war. “The BNP leader (Khaleda) had declared the war against the people of the country just to save the war criminals,” she added.
In this connection, the Prime Minister mentioned that her aim was to hang at least one war criminal before the Martyred Intellectuals Day.
Without mentioning anybody’s name, Hasina said whoever calls her from wherever she will protect the interest of people at the top. “You can pursue anyone to call me, but I myself keep on protecting the interest of people at the top. I’ll do whatever it needs in the interest of the people of this country,” she said.
