On Tuesday afternoon, noted poet Muhammad Nurul Huda’s 65th birth anniversary was celebrated through a discussion session at a programme at the Sufia Kamal auditorium of National Museum, where Asaduzzaman Noor, minister of cultural affairs, was present as the chief guest. Professor Mohammad Harun R Rashid, former director general of Bangla Academy, inaugurated the programme which was chaired by poet Habibullah Siraji.In his speech, poet Habibullah Siraji said that Mohammad Nurul Huda is recognised as one of the major poets of the 1960s in the country. ‘The poems of Huda are rrich in terms of subject matter, diction and poetic art,’ said Siraji, who also added that Nurul Huda is not only a poet but also a versatile prose writer who is equally proficient as an essayist, literary critic and translator.
Poet Mohammad Nurul Huda, in his speech, revealed his passion for poetry. ‘Poetry soothes me and I want to write poems till my last breath,’ said Huda.
Nurul Huda is a fellow at Bangla Academy and member of American Folklore Society, International Society for Folk Narrative, Bangladesh Asiatic Society and many other international organisations.
The number of Huda’s published titles exceeds 100, of which 50 are poetry, several are essays and literary criticisms, three novels, one biography, five translations and others that he has compiled and edited. His noteworthy books include Amra Tamate Jati, Jonmojati, Moinopahar, Byangkumar, Chander Buro Chander Buri, Chhotoder Begum Rokeya, and others.
He has received numerous awards including Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1988, Jessore Sahitya Parishad Award in 1983, Abul Hasan Poetry Prize in 1983, President’s Honour from Turkey in 1996, and others.
