BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s chief security officer Col (Rtd) Abdul Mazid along with three others were assaulted by police in front of party central office at Naya Paltan when Khaleda Zia went there to visit party’s ailing joint secretary general Rizvi Ahmed at around 11 pm on Monday. During this time police also picked up Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, former president of BNP’s student outfit JCD.
The incident took place when BNP chairperson was about to leave the office. The opposition leader had to stay for around 10 minutes on the street in front of the office due to the skirmish between the police and her security guards.
Later she left the place for her Gulshan residence at around 11.30 pm.
Till the filing this report late at night Tuku was detained in the Paltan police station.
Deputy Commissioner of Motijheel division, Mehedi Hassan told The Independent, “While some unruly BNP activists swooped on us in presence of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and injured two of our police personnel, we were forced to retaliate to save the lives and protect the government arms and picked up former Chhatra Dal president Sultan Salahuddin Tuku from the scene.”
