A fear has been dismissed about any sabotage on the December 29 parliament elections, the law enforcement agencies have taken special protection measures said top most officials of the Police and RAB.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Nur Mohammad and Director General of RAB Hasan Mahmud Khandaker made the remarks to reporters separately when their attention was drawn about apprehensions of any such act to foil the elections.
“We don’t have any specific information about any such act. The way we have done certain work in last few years, we don’t think terrorists will be able to do any sabotage,” the IGP told reporters at Rajarbagh Police Lines where he went to witness the final match of the Police Football Championship-2008.
However, the IGP didn’t rule out scattered minor election-related incidents. “We’ve adopted all security measures keeping possible incidents in our mind.”
Asked about CDs and letters circulated by suspected militants, the Nur said they did not notice anything other than CDs and letters. “We’re closely monitoring,” he added.
On deposition of legal arms ahead of the polls as the deadline expired on December 14, he said legal actions would be taken against those who did not surrender their arms.
RAB Director General Hasan Mahmud Khandaker told the reporters at the RAB Headquarters that they did not apprehend any subversive act by militants that would affect the ensuing parliament elections.
He said, they had prepared lists of religious militants and outlaws and those who were trying to commit unwanted things are under strict surveillance. He said 6,000 RAB members would be engaged for peaceful holding of the elections.
Already the assigned RAB members started their work to maintain law and order at a satisfactory level required for peaceful elections, said the elite-force chief, adding: any violation of the election code of conduct will be strongly dealt with.
