Information Minister Hasanul Huq Inu informed parliament that a policy on airing of news, talk shows and other programmes by the private television is under process.
“The government is not interfering in electronic media and they are enjoying full freedom to broadcast programmes,” he said replying to a tabled question of treasury bench member Fazilatun Nessa Bappi. He said the present democratic government has made Right to Information Act-2009 to ensure freedom of the press, as it believed in free flow of information.
The government has also allowed operation of 27 TV channels, 11 FM radio stations and 16 Community Radio stations for ensuring free flow of information, the minister said adding different international news agencies are working here and the foreign news channels are airing programmes without intervention.
Inu said that the number of daily newspapers are 592 and the editors, owners and publishers are the same persons in most of the media listed newspapers.
To another question from treasury bench member Md Monirul Islam, the minister said no journalist was repressed during the tenure of the present government. But, according to available information, eight journalists were killed in various incidents, he added.
