Newly-appointed United States Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Nisha Desai Biswal is likely to highlight the current political impasse over the election period governance, worker rights and Grameen Bank at her talks with Bangladeshi officials during her upcoming visit to Dhaka over November 16-18. Besides, she will talk about the third Bangladesh-US Partnership Dialogue scheduled to be held in Washington next year.
This will be Biswal’s first visit to Bangladesh after being sworn in as the Assistant Secretary on October 21, replacing Robert Blake.
According to sources concerned, while in Dhaka, the US official is likely to meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Leader of the Opposition Khaleda Zia, Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni, Commerce Minister GM Quader, Rajiuddin Ahmed Raju, civil society and human rights activists.
During her official-level talk with Foreign Secretary Shahidul Haque, Biswal is likely to discuss the issues relating to worker rights, the third Partnership Dialogue and Grameen Bank while she may raise the issues regarding political impasse with her meeting with Foreign Minister Dipu Moni, they said.
