A polytechnic student was stabbed to death allegedly by his former fiancé’s boyfriend at Chawkbazar area of Chittagong yesterday. The deceased, Towfiqul Islam, 26, was a fifth semester student of EEE at Shamoli Ideal Polytechnic Institute at Muradpur. He was the only son of Shamsul Islam of Patiya.
Jahed, a friend of the victim, said Towfiqul had gone to Chittagong College area to meet his former fiancé, Urmi, a student of the college. The two were involved in a relationship for four years but broke up a year back, he added.
At about 1:30pm yesterday, Towfiqul called his friends over phone and begged them to save him as Urmi’s new boyfriend had attacked him when he went to meet Urmi.
Towfiqul was rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, with three stab injuries in his hip area, where he succumbed to his injuries.
A murder case was filed.
