Doctors, child care specialists and diabetes specialists said on Wednesday that the richer section of the people and development workers should come forward to provide access to diabetes healthcare for underprivileged children with diabetes.
They said it at the inauguration of ‘Changing Diabetes in Children’ clinic at BIRDEM.
The Diabetes Association of Bangladesh and the Novo Nordisk Pharma jointly organised the programme at the BIRDEM auditorium.
‘Changing Diabetes in Children’ is a five-year initiative designed for improving diabetes care for underprivileged children.
Under this programme, free medication like insulin, insulin syringes, glucometer and other materials will be supplied among poor children with Type 1 diabetes in Bangladesh.
Among others, Novo Nordisk official Lise Kingo, Diabetes Association of Bangladesh president AK Azad Khan, professor emeritus Hajera Mahtab, and other Novo Nordisk officials spoke at the programme.
‘We are very happy to be with these underprivileged children. We will try our best to help these children in their fight against diabetes,’ said Lise Kingo.
‘We have been with the Diabetes Association of Bangladesh from the beginning. I can assure that we will be with it for many more years,’ she said.
‘It will be our achievement if we can help these children who are living with diabetes,’ said AK Azad.
Children with Type 1 diabetes and their parents were present at the inauguration.
