Actor Mesbahuddin Ahmed, popularly known as Wasim, died at 12:40am on Sunday at Shahabuddin Medical College Hospital in the capital. He was 74. Wasim was suffering from aging-associated diseases. He is survived by one son.
Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association general secretary Zayed Khan confirmed the matter in a Facebook post.
Wasim was born on March 23, 1947. He had acted in more than 200 films. He started his career in the film industry as an assistant director of the film Chhando Hariye Gelo in 1972. He made his acting debut with the film Rater Por Din in 1973.
Wasim-starrer film The Rain, which was released in 1976, was dubbed in 47 languages and released in cinemas across the globe. Besides, he had acted in films namely Jighangsha, Dost Dushman, Toofan, Rajmahal, Iman, Ke Asal Ke Nakal, Rajdulari, Daku Mansur, Chandan Dwiper Rajkanya, Asman Zameen, Dharma Amar Ma, Asami Hajir, Rosher Baidani, Rajshinghashon, Padmabati, Naram Garam, Banjaran, among others.
