The fifth Population and Housing Census 2011 began across the country yesterday to enumerate the entire population.
It began with the enrollment of President Zillur Rahman at Bangabhaban at one minute past zero hour.
Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) is conducting the census which will continue till March 19.
For the first time, the government is going to use digital enumeration map to ensure that every part of the country comes under the census.
The floated people have been counted in the first six hours from midnight on the first day of enumeration.
“If anybody is left out of the enumeration, he or she will have to go to the nearest census office to get counted,” said Planning Minister AK Khandaker while observing the enumeration of floating people at Kamalapur Railway Station in the city at about 12:30am.
He urged all to get counted and help others to be counted.
The minister said people living in enclaves are being counted as per a special measure. “There is an agreement with India in this regard,” he added.
