The enthusiastic activists of Prangonemor cheered, danced and sang songs on the colourfully decorated Bangladesh Shilpakala
Academy premises on Friday.
Their joy knew no bound on the opening day of the eight-day theatre festival organised by Prangonemor marking the
troupe’s 10th founding anniversary.Though the venue of the festival is the Music and Dance Centre of the academy, the whole premises has been decorated with lights and colourful banners which attracted hundreds of visitors at the inauguration ceremony.
A Tagore’s sculpture has been placed at the venue as a testimony of the troupe’s fascination for the Nobel Laureate poet.
The festival will feature all the eight plays the troupe has produced so far in the past nine years including four plays based on Tagore’s works, and one Nazrul’s play.
Following the formal opening of the festival by thespian Nasiruddin Yousuff, Prangonemor staged the troupe’s first production titled Shyamaprem.
Based on Tagore’s dance drama Shyama, the play adapted by Chittaranjan Ghosh and directed by Ananta Hira, depicts a story of love, patriotism and humanity through a revolutionary’s sacrifice for his love.
Ananta Hira, Nuna Afroz, Ramij Razu and others acted different characters of the play.
A houseful audience was present at the show. ‘I have watched some of Prangonemor’s plays. Their productions are always catchy and enjoyable’, said Shimanta Rahman, an audience.
‘We have decided to showcase our achievements in the festival by staging all our productions’, said Ananta Hira, the president of Prangonemor.
