The president, Abdul Hamid, on Sunday said the universities
must ensure quality higher education.
The president, also chancellor of all universities in the country, stressed the need when three vice-chancellors — Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique of Dhaka University, Maj Gen Mamun Khaled of Bangladesh University of Professionals and Professor M Alauddin of Maulana Bhasani Science and Technology University paid separate courtesy call on him.
While meeting the Dhaka University delegation, Abdul Hamid gave directives to take steps for ensuring quality higher education maintaining international standard with a view to making the students fit to compete with the globalised world.
The DU VC apprised the president of various academic and development activities as well as the existing problems facing the university.
Abdul Hamid gave a patient hearing to the delegation and assured him of all-out cooperation for the development of Dhaka University.
During a separate meeting, BUP VC Maj Gen Mamun Khaled informed the president of various service-oriented activities of the institutes under the BUP.
The president expressed satisfaction over activities of the BUP and put emphasis on increasing and extending social service-oriented activities of the different institutes under the BUP to benefit more common people.
The president also gave suggestion for increasing capacity of the general hospital of the Armed Forces Medical College under the BUP so that common people could get better healthcare services.
M Alauddin, VC of Maulana Bhasani Science and Technology University, also apprised the president of various academic activities of the university during another meeting.
He sought cooperation of the president for improving infrastructure facilities of the university, being comparatively new with only 3,000 students under five faculties.
