President Abdul Hamid on Thursday underscored the need for strengthening
the trade relations between Bangladesh and Cyprus.
The president made the remark when new high commissioner of Cyprus to Bangladesh Maria Michail presented her credentials to him at Bangabhaban.Hamid suggested exchanging trade delegations between the two countries.
Welcoming the new Cyprus envoy, Hamid said there are many Bangladeshi students currently studying in Cyprus.
He also urged the Cyprus government to increase the categories of permitted jobs for the Bangladesh students.
The president also said Cyprus can import world class Bangladeshi products, including RMG, pharmaceuticals, leather and leather goods.
Maria Michail said she would try her level best to bolster the trade relations between the two countries during her assignment.
She sought president’s assistance to discharge her duties. In reply, Hamid assured his all-out cooperation.
The president also wished the successful tenure of the high commissioner in her office and expressed hope that the bilateral relations will further strengthen during the tenure.
