President Abdul Hamid on Monday called upon the business leaders to use newer business ideas for generating more and more jobs and thus spur economic activities.
Hamid said this when a delegation of the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry, led by its president M Sabur Khan, met him at Bangabhaban.‘We’ll have to change our mindset of chasing only for government jobs. There’re also opportunities for self-employment,’ the President told the delegation.
Appreciating the initiative of the DCCI on creating 2,000 entrepreneurs under seven particular sectors through providing various supports to Bangladesh citizens, especially the youth and women, Hamid said: ‘Your initiative to create new entrepreneurs will help the country march forward towards
its desired development goal.’
The president underscored the need for innovativeness in the
business sector for flourishing the economy as there is a tendency to run for a particular profitable business.
Emphasising the need for controlling population, Hamid said, ‘Had the country’s population been 10-11 crore, the per capita income here would have stood at $4000 to $5000.’
The president called upon all to contribute to the national development from their respective positions.
During the meeting, Sabur Khan made a power-point presentation to apprise the President of the DCCI initiative taken to create 2,000 new entrepreneurs in the country.
He said the DCCI had already set up a helpdesk at its office and conducted campaign at all public and private universities as well as chambers of all 64 districts to create new entrepreneurs.
Sabur added that it will organise a road show in this regard within three months.
