Sajeeb Wajed Joy, the only son of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in a Facebook post on Sunday evening claimed to have got a death threat through a tweet message by a local human rights activist.
According to his Facebook page, he wrote: ”Self-proclaimed human rights activist threatens PM’s family with death.” After posting a picture of the threatening conversation, Joy said, ”The following is a tweet that was sent directly to me by William Gomes. He claims to be a human rights activist and has been very active spreading false claims of human rights abuses by our Government. Today he tweeted wishing that my mother and family are murdered just as my family was murdered in 1975. This just proves that he does not believe in human rights at all, but is just using the guise to make false claims against us. He is really a terrorist.”
In a screen shot of the alleged conversation between Sajeeb Wajed Joy and William Gomes, there was a tweet which reads Gomes as saying,” Ask your mom to pack up. It is time to go. From now on, she will cook for you everyday. Wish she will end up like your Nanu.”
According to the sources, William Nicolas Gomes has converted to Christianity from Islam and is currently stationed in UK.
Earlier he allegedly got an accreditation card from the Information Directorate of Information Ministry using fake identity of ‘Sri Lanka Guradian’. However, according to the Sri Lankan High Commission in Dhaka, there is no newspaper in the country named ‘Sri Lanka Guradian’.
A document obtained by The Independent shows that he was provided an accreditation card, whose serial number is 3127.
The card was validated till January 12 of 2012, which was issued on January 13 in 2011.
Talking to The Independent over phone, ruling Awami League deputy press secretary Mrinal Kanti Das said, I did not see any such post.
Asked about any step against the alleged threat against the prime minister’s family he said,’’ I am not eligible to comment over this issue, it would be better you talk to the senior authorities or person attached with him.”
About the reported threat Md Tutul Hossain, Assistant Police Commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police said, we did not get any such news.
We do not work until a complaint is lodged, he said,’’ I am inquiring to check whether any case or general diary is recorded in this connection.”
Meanwhile, soon after the post was published, dozens of fans of Sajeeb Wajed Joy started commenting on the post. Some of them demanded exemplary punishment while others advised him to move carefully.
