Newcomers Prime Doleshwar continued their impressive run in the Dhaka Premier League after pipping Gazi Tank Cricketers for a three-run win in Duckworth/Lewis method in a hard-fought encounter at Mirpur on Saturday. In the day’s other two matches, Nasir Hossain inspired Victoria Sporting Club to a narrow three-wicket win over Cricket Coaching School at Fatullah while Prime Bank also posted a close two-wicket victory against Mohammedan Sporting Club at Savar.
Prime Doleshwar v Gazi Tank Cricketers
Prime Doleshwar registered their fourth consecutive victory to move to the top of the points table as Gazi Tanks lost their way while chasing after a rain interruption.
Asked to bat first after losing the toss, Prime Doleshwar scored 211-9 in their 50 overs thanks to the efforts of Roshane Shiwanka Silva, the leading run-scorer of the league with 319 runs. Roshane struck 65 from 67 balls while opener Mehedi Maruf chipped in with 60 from 80 deliveries.
Gazi Tanks’ Rubel Hossain widened the gap between him and the second-highest wicket-taker of the league as he scalped 4-53 to finish round five matches with 19 wickets.
Chasing Prime Doleshwar’s target, Gazi Tanks were well-poised at 115-3 in 31 overs when rain halted play. When play resumed, Gazi Tanks were set a revised target of 146 in 36 overs.
Gazi Tanks lost a flurry of wickets and eventually fell short by three runs as they lost their last seven wickets for 27 runs.
Gazi Tanks, however, alleged that they were forced to bat in darkness after the resumption and their request to check the light went unheeded.
Gazi Tanks ended on 142-9 in 36 overs, suffering their second defeat of the league as Prime Doleshwar’s Sohag Gazi (2-16), Hasantha Fernando (2-26) and Farhad Reza (3-18) shared seven wickets between them.
Farhad was adjudged the man of the match for his game-changing bowling effort.
Prime Bank v Mohammedan Sporting Club
Mohammedan fell to their second successive defeat as Prime Bank claimed a two-wicket win after a disciplined bowling performance.
Asked to bat first after losing the toss, Mohammedan were all out for 173 in 50 overs as the Prime Bank bowlers took wickets at regular intervals. Ziaur Rahman’s military medium-pace sent back three opposition batsmen for 24 runs in 10 overs.
Prime Bank captain Enamul Haque Jr complemented Ziaur well, taking 2-32 in his 10 overs.
In reply, Prime Bank nearly made a mess of their modest target before a 71-run partnership for the sixth wicket between Taiyabur Parvez (38 off 81 balls) and Rezaul Karim (41 off 86 balls) saw them through with 14 balls to spare.
Rezaul was adjudged the man of the match.
Victoria Sporting Club v Cricket Coaching School
In another close encounter, a-run-a-ball knock from skipper Nasir enabled Victoria to a two-wicket win with eight balls to spare.
Cricket Coaching School, choosing to bat first after winning the toss, scored 217-8 in 50 overs. In reply, Nasir hit 77 off 78 balls and an unbeaten 40 from Jubair Ahmed guided Victoria home.
This was Cricket Coaching School’s fifth defeat in as many matches.
Nasir was adjudged the man of the match.
