Police on Tuesday afternoon arrested the prime suspect in the robbery in three jewellery shops
and the killing of a night guard at Zindabazar in Sylhet.
The arrested was identified as Manik Miah, 40, a technician of gold ornaments, the sources said.
A team of Kotwali police arrested Manik Miah in the city at around 4:00pm, the sources said.
Being contacted, Sylhet Metropolitan Police additional deputy commissioner Mohammed Ayub told New Age of the news of arrest.
‘According to our investigation, Manik Miah was the mastermind of the robbery and he participated in the incident of looting
gold ornaments and killing the night guard Badsha Miah,’ the SMP official told.
He said they were interrogating Manik Miah in the evening for extracting more information regarding the robbery incident.
A gang of armed robbers looted three jewellery shops at Nehar Market in the city’s Zindabazar on Wednesday evening by exploding crude bombs and shooting a night guard dead.
Police after the incident arrested four people including Kabir Ahmed alias Heroin Kabir, Abdul Jalil alias Pokra Jalil, Nahid alias Kala Nahid and Omar Ali for their alleged involvement with the incident.
The law-enforcers could not recover the looted gold ornaments so far.
