The students of BGC Trust University on Saturday blocked Chittagong –Cox’s Bazar highway for about 30 minutes as four students were injured by the police at Patiya upazila in Chittagong.
Students and campus sources said that a student bus of the carrying the private university was hit from behind by a bus of Eagle Transport Company at Kharna of Patiya upazila at around 10:15 am.
The students on the university bus picked up a quarrel with the Eagle Transport driver and helper.
A patrol police team of Patiya police station led by subinspector Kutub Uddin rushed the spot and dispersed the agitating students charging baton that left four students injured.
The injured students — Kamrul Islam, Saiful Islam, Asif Uddin and Abu Sufian were rushed to BGC Trust Medical College Hospital.
Agitated students of the university blocked the highway in front of the campus at Muzaffarabad of Chandanish upazila at around 10:25am.
They, however, withdrew the blockade after the police had assured them of looking into the matter.
Patiya police station officer-in-charge Mafiz Uddin said that the vehicular movements resumed at around 11:00am.
The university assistant registrar Salauddin Shahria said that the students placed a written complaint to the Superintendent of Police in Chittagong through the university authorities in this regard.
