Professor MA Matin has been appointed acting vice-chancellor of Jahangirnagar University for a month and directed to arrange VC panel election.
President Abdul Hamid, also chancellor of the university, on Wednesday appointed statistics department professor, also Pro-VC (education) Professor MA Matin, to the post.
Confirming the appointment, Matin told New Age that his first priority would be to arrange VC panel election as per directives of the chancellor.
The appointment came after the resignation of DU Professor Anwar Hossain as VC on January 13 in the face of agitation by teachers, employees and students.
Hearing the news, the agitating teachers unlocked the administrative building after two months and urged the acting VC to maintain chancellor’s order properly.
According to the resolution, member-secretary of the agitating Teachers Unity Forum Professor Kamrul Ahsan said, within one month three-member VC panel representatives through panel election should be sent to the chancellor for permanent appointment according to the ordinance.
Professor MA Matin sought co-operation from all concerned to uphold the dignity of the university ordinance 1973 arranging a credible VC panel election.
