The 110th birth anniversary of the national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam will be celebrated across the country today. The government, foreign embassies, education institutions, socio-cultural organisations and TV channels have chalked out various programmes to mark the occasion.
The president Zillur Rahman will inaugurate the national poet’s birth anniversary programme at the Osmani Memorial Hall at 11:30am. The inaugural ceremony will be followed by a cultural function.
The Shilpakala Academy will hold a cultural programme at 7:00pm at the academy’s National Theatre Hall. Noted artistes will recite poems, stage dance and sing Nazrul’s songs.
The Nazrul Institute in cooperation with the ministry of cultural affairs has organised a weeklong Nazrul Granthamela at the Central Public Library. The book fair which will be inaugurated at 10:00am will remain open for the visitors up to 05:00pm everyday till May 31.
The institute will also hold a discussion and cultural programme at 4:00pm at the Sufia Kamal auditorium of the National Museum on May 26 while closing of the Granthamela will be held at 4:00pm on May 27 with a cultural programme at the same venue.
The Nazrul Academy will arrange soirees of Nazrul songs at 6:00pm at the academy’s office at Belalabad of Maghbazar on May 25 and 26.
Nazrul Sangeet Shilpi Parishad will hold cultural programmes where noted artistes will recite poems, stage dance and sing Nazrul’s songs at the Shaukat Osman Memorial auditorium of Central Public Library at 6:30pm on May 25 and 26.
Private television Channel-i will hold a daylong programme titled ‘Nazrul Mela’ on the occasion of the rebellious poet’s birthday at its Tejgoan office on the day.
On the occasion, the Bangla Academy will organise a discussion programme at their auditorium on May 28.
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) will hold a discussion programme at 4:00pm at Mahanagar Natyamanch. BNP’s chairperson and leader of opposition party in the Jatiya Sangsad will be present as the chief guest at the programme to be followed by a cultural function.
Publishing house Muktadhara is organising a fortnight long Rabindra-Nazrul Jayanti Boimela from May 14 at the Public Library. The book fair will remain open for the visitors from 10:00am to 8:00pm everyday till May 28.
