Speakers at a community advocacy meeting in Rangpur on Tuesday stressed disseminating proper education, knowledge and social values to create awareness for preventing the threat of spreading the deadly HIV/AIDS diseases. They were addressing a seminar on ‘HIV Prevention and Control among High Risk Population and Vulnerable Young People in Bangladesh’ organised by Rangpur Drop-in-Centre -1 of Help and Education for Least-privileged People at its office in the city.
Noted social worker Mohammad Entaz Uddin attended the meeting as the chief guest with coordinator of Rangpur DIC-1 of HELP Mohammad Shahidul Islam in the chair.
Mohammad Shahidul Islam also presented the keynote paper narrating ongoing activities of the NGO in expanding provision of essential services to street based and hotel/residence based female sex workers.
Outreach supervisor of Rangpur DIC-1 of the NGO Rashedul Islam, field officers Mohammad Ronny and Reajul Haque Shah narrated the present HIV/AIDS situation in the region and ongoing prevention measures.
Twenty-five participants including community leaders, NGO executives, public representatives, teachers, social workers, religious leaders, civil society members, hijra community people, motor workers, journalists and elite took part in the programme.
The speakers said the killer HIV-AIDS diseases have been posing formidable threats to human life and social health with possibilities of further spreading everywhere, as the situation in the neighbouring countries is already vulnerable.
