A teacher of a primary school was stand-released on Thursday after some girl students brought charges of sexual harassment against him.
The upazila primary education officer said that a primary inquiry had found true the charges against Abul Kalam Azad, 42, an assistant teacher of Government Model Primary School at Sujanagar of Pabna, and that the upazila education office recommended departmental action against him.
There were allegations that Abul Kalam Azad had often sexually harassed three students of class V of the school. On Wednesday one of the victims complained to the headmaster about the matter.
Sujanagar upazila primary education officer Sirajum Munira along with three members of the inquiry team visited the school and talked with the students, parents and teachers of the school and found Abul Kalam Azad guilty.
‘The teacher sexually harassed a few students of the school. The primary inquiry has found him guilty,’ she said.
The accused was transferred to Sagarkandi primary school of the upazila on Thursday afternoon after being stand-released from Government Model Primary School, the officer said. We have submitted an inquiry report to the district primary education office and recommended departmental action against him, she told New Age.
Parents and the students of different educational institutions in Sujanagar upazila demanded exemplary punishment of the accused.
