The government has imposed a ban on use of primary students to welcome visiting public representatives.
Ministry of Primary and Mass Education issued the circular on such restriction on Monday.
The circular said the primary students are made to stand on roadsides when the public representatives, distinguished people and high officials are on a visit to different places, upazilas or districts. The children are forced to join the ceremonial reception leaving their classes during such visits. Considering the sufferings of the children, the ministry has issued the circular.
The circular further said the children are asked to remain standing under the sun during those programmes.
The concerned people are advised to refrain from such practices to maintain congenial atmosphere in the primary schools, the circular added. Legal action will be taken against the headmaster and school managing committee if the authority finds recurrence of such practice in future.
The school children were seen forced to line up as mark of ceremonial reception on the occasion of visits by ministers and members of the parliament after the present government came to power following January 5 polls.
