The pre-shipment inspection system will be made optional in the 2013-14 financial year as the government will introduce customised software for classification
and valuation of imported goods in customs.
Finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith in his budget speech on Thursday said that ASYCUDA World software would be used to eliminate hassles at the customs houses.
‘This technology is expected to be inaugurated on a pilot basis at Chittagong custom house on July 1. This new technology will facilitate the online submission of Bill of Entry and Bill of Exports,’ he said.
In the second phase it will facilitate online issuance of Utilisation Declaration of export-oriented industries, online payment of taxes and exchange of documents, he said.
Asian Development Bank and PSI companies are working on a database to this end.
‘Appropriate steps are being taken to amend The Customs Act, 1969 and the relevant rules as well,’ said the finance minister.
