Rabindra Parishad Bangladesh arranged a programme on Sunday at Russian Science and Cultural auditorium to celebrate the centenary of Tagore’s
winning of Nobel prize.
Rabindranath Tagore was the first Asian to win the prestigious accoldate in 1913. The programme was Ppresided by professor Syed Muhammad Shahed, former director general of Bangla Academy and Alexander A Nicolaieve, Russian ambassador to Bangladesh, was present as the honourable guest at the programme. Professor Haroon-ur-Rashid, associate editor of daily Independent, was present as a special guest at the programme.
Convenor of Rabindra Porishod Bangladesh Masood Mannan delivered the welcome speech and shared the counsel’s future plan with all.
He said that a bilingual book (English and Bangla), comprising of the impact of Tagore’s Nobel winning on the then and now intellectuals of Bangladesh and India, will be published within a year by the Porishod.
Professor Haroon-ur-Rashid, though his discussion, highlighted the differences between the English and Bangla versions of Geetanjali, while Alexander A Nicolaieve delivered a speech on Tagore’s visit to Russia in the thirties of the 20th century and the poet’s view of the then Soviet Union.
The discussion was followed by a cultural session. Kazi Madina, Rezina Walilina, Farhana Ahmed, Sajida Akand, Bhaswar Banarjee recited poems from Geetanjali.
Famous Tagore singer Fahim Hossain Chowdhury and Shama Rahman entertained the audience through rendering songs from Geetanjali.
The minister of foreign affairs Dr Dipu Moni recited poems from Geetanjali.
